Enchanting Cornwall - May 6th – 17th 2010

This will be an amazing 12 day journey of discovery to very special places in Cornwall - the county at the south western tip of England. Those who come here fall in love with Cornwall - you’ll find yourself in an enchanting paradise. Because of its location there is a cornucopia of ancient sacred sites, left intact and unspoilt by commercialism, which we will explore, amongst stunning coastal scenery, wild moorlands, and picturesque villages with their thatched cottages. We’ll also enjoy the gentle beauty of the countryside and several secluded magical gardens, which have been nourished by the love of special people in the mild and temperate climate – all off the beaten track.
We’ll also have the excitement of visiting the Eden Project, a global garden for the 21st century in a dramatic setting - it’s a reminder of our place in nature and a living demonstration of regeneration.
We’ll stay in a quiet and friendly small guest house in Penzance, an archetypal Cornish town with many interesting artisan-type shops and great eating places. And in the middle of our journey we’ll spend 5 nights on the spectacular coast of north Cornwall. Here we’ll stay in an incredible B&B situated on a cliff top with outstanding views of the sea and close to the Cornish coastal path, with the advantage of delectable home cooked meals and local wines at hand.

Holy Thorn Tree

Thursday May 6th - Meet at pre-arranged time in Penzance (talk to me about logistics of getting there). Settle in at our hotel then venture out to explore some of the local offerings: sea at the doorstep, sacred sites within a stones throw, and an interesting Cornish town with many unique artistic shops full of character and many gastronomic delights. In the evening enjoy our “Welcome Dinner” together.

Friday May 7th - Travel to some of the unique sacred sites within this West Penwith area – Men-an-Tol healing stone, Boscawen-un stone circle (within it is one solid quartz stone), Chun Quoit dolmen and Sancreed Holy Well. Relish the abundance of these ancient sites and enjoy the rush of antiquity which seems to be imbued in this area. This afternoon, we go to Trencrom Hill, home of Hamish Miller (master dowser and co-author of many books, including “The Sun and the Serpent”) and his partner, Ba. We will be hosted with a bit of dowsing - introduction to earth energy, and exploration of the sacred area within which they live and a Cornish Cream tea!

Saturday May 8th - Spend the day at St. Michael’s Mount – Depending on the tide, we’ll catch the boat one way and walk the causeway the other to get to and from the island to explore the castle and gardens. This is the extreme south west of England’s Michael and Mary ley lines and there’s definitely an amazing presence here - many people have had (especially angelic) experiences! In the afternoon we can spend some time in Penzance if you are interested in an eclectic shopping trip, or have some free time to time to relax doing whatever you want.

Sunday May 9th - After breakfast, leave Penzance for a few days and make out way to North Cornwall. En route we’ll spend the day at the Eden Project – a global garden where you can travel the world in one day!! Drive on to the Bluff Centre, our truly fabulous B&B on the cliffs near Tintagel. It is so close to the Cornish coastal path that you’ll have time to explore a little after settling in and before dinner.  Enjoy our Dinner provided tonight at the Bluff.

Monday May 10th -This morning we’ll go for a walk through the wooded valley of St Nectan's Glen where a fairy like world exists. And at the far end is the Hermitage and a sacred and magical waterfall and kieve, where it is said, that King Arthur and his knights had initiation. Lunch in Boscastle and an hour or so to check out the picturesque and quaint village and visit Paul Broadhurst’s lovely shop. If he’s around, maybe we can spend some time with him discovering his revelations in the Cornish Landscape outlined in his new book, “The Secret Land”. In the afternoon back to the same stream we were on this morning but follow it seaward down Rocky Valley to see the Bronze Age labyrinth stone carving  and marvel at the unique scenery the stream carves down to the sea itself and the stunning views from the cliff tops above. Dinner provided tonight.

Tuesday May 11th - After breakfast, off to find Hawker’s Hut on the cliffs at Morwenstow near Bude. It’s a fantastic walk to where Reverend Hawker communicated with spirit, and close by is a holy well dedicated to St. Morwenna that Morwenstow was named after. It’s a stunning spot! Then go back via Crackington Haven, where a magical garden awaits us.

Wednesday May 12th - This morning we’ll visit the holy well and chapel of Clether, a Celtic saint. Set in a beautiful valley with babbling brook and gorse in flower, one could not wish for a more peaceful and sacred place. And then on to the wild and exhilarating Bodmin Moor where Trethevy Quoit dolmen, the Hurlers triple stone circle, and the Cheesewring (an extraordinary natural arrangement of stones) await our exploration. Along the way, find a nice tea shop where we can enjoy a Cornish Cream Tea (delicious scones, jam, and Cornish clotted cream, a local delicacy). Dinner provided tonight.

Thursday May 13th – A short journey along the coast to Tintagel, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. Visit the castle ruins on the rugged Island site, with the atmospheric Merlin’s cave on the beach below. This afternoon we have some free time before dinner, provided tonight.

Friday May 14th – Leave the Bluff this morning after breakfast and return to West Penwith. On our way back to Penzance visit the unique all quartz Stone Circle at Duloe. Then, after lunch, visit Hidden Valley gardens by St. Austell Bay. One can’t help thinking of that saying that goes “One is closer to God’s heart in a garden than anywhere else on Earth” for their ever peaceful and beautiful spaces, ideal for meditation and inspiration. It is for this reason we are visiting the lesser known, non commercial gardens.

Saturday May 15th – Today is another day to visit magnificent little known gardens - Lamorran House gardens with spectacular views of Falmouth bay, and St. Just in Roseland Churchyard which has a surprising secret paradise of winding paths amongst native wild flowers, leading towards a hidden creek and an ancient holy well. Whilst we’re in this special space, find a beautiful beach on the way back where we can walk barefoot in the sand!

Sunday May 16thToday, our last day together, visit a few more of the magical places in the West Penwith peninsula - Merry Maidens Stone Circle, Madron Holy Well, and Carn Euny Fogou and village. Group consensus decides what else we’d like to do. Enjoy our Farewell Dinner together at a favourite place.
