Crop Circle Adventure 2 - July 31st – August 7th 2012
The Crop Circles, which have appeared worldwide for over 35 years, still have an enigmatic presence, especially on the landscape of southern England, where an abundance of magnificent patterns appear in the fields each summer. With such a small group we can be free and spontaneous to explore Crop Circles as they appear. The week will be packed with adventures, hunting out new Crop Circles (it’s really like a treasure hunt sometimes), and meeting with other researchers and interesting people from around the world who are compelled to take an annual Pilgrimage to explore this amazing mystery. We’ll stay in the heart of Wiltshire Crop Circle country and our week will be interspersed with visits to the myriad of ancient sites that are concentrated in this glorious Sacred Landscape, including special access to Stonehenge outside hours. Also included is a day trip to Glastonbury, which has been a spiritual center for thousands of years.
Tuesday July 31st – Meet at London Heathrow Airport (LHR) at Terminal 3 Arrivals at 11am. Travel to Wiltshire, lunching at a country pub en route. We’ll be staying in a delightful cottage right in the heart of Crop Circle country. After settling in, go to visit our first Crop Circle. In the evening, enjoy our “Welcome Dinner” at one of the charming country pubs in the area.
Wednesday August 1st – After a leisurely breakfast, drive to the Silent Circle Café, the “croppie” meeting place. Take a picnic lunch to Avebury, visiting the Stone Circle (largest in Europe). Before leaving Avebury, stop by the Henge shop, a popular place for discerning shoppers. Explore any Crop Circles in the vicinity.
Thursday August 2nd – Today we journey to Glastonbury and ancient Avalon, leaving early and staying late. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Chalice Well, with its healing waters and peaceful gardens, climb Glastonbury Tor and Wearyall Hill, visit the ancient Abbey ruins, and explore the unique and colourful shops. Stop for dinner at a lovely country pub on the way home.
Friday August 3rd – In the morning (weather permitting) you will have the opportunity to take an exhilarating flight above the Crop Circles (optional) so that you can see from above all the ones you’ve visited on the ground and get a chance to spot any new ones. Enjoy lunch in the lovely old market town of Marlborough, afterwards taking in any formations that are in the area.
Saturday Aug 4th – A special reason to get up early this morning - we have a visit to Stonehenge where we have special access inside the circle. It’s always very special at this time of day. Return to our cottage for breakfast and then off to visit more Crop Circles. Have lunch at The Barge Inn, a “croppie’ meeting place of yesteryear, set in a picturesque setting by the Kennet and Avon Canal, and then on to Devizes, a captivating old market town in the area.
Sunday August 5th – In case we weren't able to fly on Friday, we’ll have another opportunity today. Then we’ll visit West Kennett Long Barrow (a 5000 year old chambered tomb), and see close by Silbury Hill (largest man made mound in Europe). Spend the rest of the day visiting any new formations we hear about or maybe an interesting older one that is further afield. After dinner at a lovely country pub, go up to Knapp Hill (optional) to have a few hours of sky/crop watching. What will we see? Many people have seen “balls of light” and other high strangeness from these locations.
Monday August 6th – This is our last day together so take a last visit to the Silent Circle and enjoy our last Crop Circle experiences. Group consensus will decide what else. This afternoon we’ll be honoured to have afternoon tea with Michael Glickman, one of the “elders” of crop circle research, at his cottage. Here we will be enlightened by his unique insights into the Crop Circles and entertained by his witty humour. In the evening, enjoy our “Farewell Dinner” together at a charming country pub.
Tuesday August 7th – After breakfast, it is goodbye to Crop Circle country and back to London Heathrow.
