Mystical England -
Stonehenge, Glastonbury, Cornwall and Crop Circles
June 29th – July 7th 2012

This trip is jam packed with exciting venues, 9 days of adventure following the Dragon Line as it meanders through Wiltshire, Glastonbury and Cornwall. We start out in Wiltshire, with an introduction to the most amazing modern mystery of all – the Crop Circles. Then on to Glastonbury, the ancient Avalon where the legends of King Arthur and Merlin’s Mystery School abound, which today is still a strong spiritual centre, with a quirky feel. In Cornwall, we will stay high on the cliffs close to Tintagel Castle where legend has it that Arthur was born and tales of Merlin abound. Here we’ll visit little known and magical places you’ll fall in love with – stunning coastal scenery holding secrets of long ago, sacred valleys and holy wells, a Cretan maze carved into a rock, and a magical waterfall; and Bodmin Moor, where ancient stone circles and dolmen dot the wild landscape. And then back to the Wiltshire countryside for further exploration of the Crop Circles. Here we’ll spend time in the fields, experiencing their magic and visiting the abundant ancient sacred sites in the area. One evening we have special access to Stonehenge out of hours. This tour takes place before school gets out, so a lot of the places we’ll have to ourselves.

Sunday July 1st – After breakfast drive to Glastonbury, where, after firstly stopping by our B&B, take an inspirational walk to Glastonbury Tor, picnicking in the lower meadow before climbing up to St. Michael’s tower which caps the summit. Check out the topography of the landscape revealing zodiac and goddess features. We’ll then enjoy a relaxing time at the Chalice Well with its healing waters and beautiful gardens. Return to town to browse around the eclectic array of unique and colourful shops. Visit Glastonbury Abbey ruins in it’s unique setting with its rich history, and also where King Arthur and Guinevere are buried.

Monday July 2nd – After breakfast travel to North Cornwall, lunching en route. Settle into our accommodation in its stunning cliff top location near Tintagel.  Take an afternoon walk down Rocky Valley to see the Bronze Age labyrinth stone carving and marvel at the unique scenery the stream carves down to the sea itself and the stunning views from the cliff tops above. Dinner provided tonight.

Tuesday July 3rd – This morning we’ll visit the holy well and chapel of Clether, a Celtic saint. Set in a beautiful valley with babbling brook, meadow of wild flowers and the golden gorse in bloom, one could not wish for a more peaceful and sacred place. We then proceed to the wild and exhilarating Bodmin Moor where Trethevy Quoit dolmen, the Hurlers triple stone circle, and the Cheesewring (an extraordinary natural arrangement of stones) await our exploration. During the afternoon find a nice tea shop where we can enjoy a Cornish Cream Tea (delicious scones, homemade jam, and Cornish clotted cream, a local delicacy). For our (later) dinner tonight, we can walk down the cliffs from our B&B on the Cornish Coastal Path to a restaurant right on the beach.

Wednesday July 4th – After breakfast, drive a short way along the coast to Tintagel, the legendary birthplace of King Arthur. Visit the castle ruins on the rugged Island site, with the atmospheric Merlin’s cave on the beach below. Visit Boscastle, with its quaint cottages, picturesque harbour and stunning coastal scenery for lunch and a browse around the enchanting village. After lunch go for a walk through the wooded valley of St Nectan's Glen where a fairy like world exists. And at the far end the Hermitage perches on the cliff top. Below is the sacred and magical waterfall and kieve, where it’s said that King Arthur and his Knights had initiation.  Dinner provided tonight.

After settling in to our B&B stop by West Kennet Long Barrow (5000 yr old chambered tomb), and see nearby Silbury Hill (largest man made mound in Europe) visiting any Crop Circles in the vicinity. And then, this evening, after an early dinner, drive to Stonehenge, where we have special access inside the stone circle for evening meditation.

Friday July 6th – This morning (weather permitting) we get to take an (optional) exhilarating flight above the crop circles to check out the formations we’ve seen and see if we can spot any new ones. Enjoy lunch in the lovely old market town of Marlborough. Later, we’ll visit Michael Glickman, one of the “elders” of crop circle research, for “teatime” at his cottage. Here we’ll be enlightened by his unique insights into the Crop Circles and entertained by his witty humour. Enjoy our last Crop Circle experience before our “Farewell Dinner” at a charming country pub.

Saturday July 7th – Goodbye to the countryside and back to London Heathrow.
